A glittering professional's career can conceal many of the most tragic stories. Lolo Jones, who took home the USA as well as the World Champion in the event of a hurdle in 2013, has only achieved this feat by putting in a lot of effort and tremendous patience. Born to a single mother with five kids, Jones had a difficult and impoverished childhood. Her mother lived along the roads and within the basement of a church in the area at times. Jones was an erratic and mobile lifestyle until the time she entered high school, had to transfer to a brand new school each year. Jones moved away from her mother to Theodore Roosevelt to enable her to pursue her interest in track. She stayed in four houses during her years of high school, so she could study all in the same place. Jones won her the Gatorade Iowa Track and Field Athlete of the Year award during her time at school. She also was a part of the school orchestra, as a cello player. Jones started her professional career at the college level as one of the best hurdlers. She was the winner of the 100 meter hurdles at the 2002 NCAA Track & Field Championship. Also, she was a part of the team that won the 100-meter relay. Jones was the NCAA Champion in indoor hurdler in both 2013 and 2003. Jones, after completing her studies in 2005, began to work hard in track. She won both the Torino Memorial and the Heusden Track races in the same year.
